THE STORY

WHY I MADE STRINGMATE-PRO

I’ve worked as a landscaper for around 25 years, and Stringmate-Pro came from something very simple: I got fed up with messing around with string lines.

Anyone who works in landscaping, groundworks or construction will know the routine. You set your lines out, move them, wind them back up, untangle them, look for somewhere to hook the reel — and somehow the string always seems to end up wrapped around something it shouldn’t. It’s not a massive problem, but when you’re doing it day in, day out, it’s one of those little things that gets annoying.

Stringmate-Pro started as a simple idea to make my own working day easier. I wanted a string-line reel that I could clip straight onto a piece of 16mm rebar, pull out the line I needed, and wind it back in again when I was finished. No complicated system and no need to change the way I already worked.

So I made one.

The first versions were made for me to use on site. I changed bits, redesigned bits, broke a few, printed some more and gradually ended up with something that genuinely worked. The important thing was that it had to be practical. It was going in a toolbox and onto building sites, not sitting on a shelf looking pretty.

After using it myself, I realised it was actually a really useful little bit of kit. It doesn’t reinvent setting-out and it doesn’t pretend to. It’s just a simple job hack that’s made something I’ve done thousands of times over the years a bit quicker and easier.

That’s really what Stringmate-Pro is about.

It clips securely onto 16mm rebar, carries up to 60 metres of string-line and keeps the reel right where you need it. Clip it on, pull your line out, do your setting out and reel it back in.

No gimmicks. Just a simple idea, made by someone who actually uses it.
